Explicit and Implicit Mitzvot in the Book of Matthew
Whereas New Covenant Scriptures are liberally cited in support of
Mitzvot elsewhere in this book, this Appendix lists those words of
Yeshua in the Book of Matthew that can reasonably be considered commandments.
Some of these are unique, and some are repeats of mitzvot given
earlier through Moses.
- On knowing that our salvation is in Yeshua. 1:19-21
- On knowing that Yeshua was conceived by the Holy Spirit and
was born of a Virgin. 1:19-23
- On repenting of our sins and being immersed. 3:1-6 & 4:17
- On living according to the Word of God. 4:2-4
- On testing the Lord our God. 4:5-7
- On worshiping the Lord our God and serving only him. 4:8-10
- On being fishers of men. 4:18-19
- On being merciful to others. 5:7
- On pursuing purity of heart. 5:8
- On being makers of peace. 5:9
- On being salt for the earth and not losing our saltiness. 5:13
- On obeying the Torah and teaching
Torah-obedience to others. 5:17-19
- On not committing murder. 5:21
- On not nursing anger against nor despising our brother. 5:22
- On seeking reconciliation with a brother who believes we
have sinned against him. 5:23-24
- On not committing adultery. 5:27
- On not lusting after a person of the opposite sex who is
not our spouse. 5:27-29
- On not divorcing our spouse without first acquiring a
get. 5:31
- On keeping our vows to the Lord. 5:33
- On not swearing oaths, but rather letting our
'yes' be 'yes', and our 'no'

- On blessing our enemies, and not taking vengeance for wrongs

- On being a light for the world and not allowing our light

- On having compassion for, and not isolating ourselves from,

- On embracing the "Great Commission" we have been given to

or of little faith and are therefore vulnerable to their

- On not making void the Word of God by our man-made rules

- On judging the cleanness of our hearts by how we speak and

- On knowing that the Messianic Community has authority to
make decisions on earth that are reflected in heaven. 16:18-19 & 18:18-20
- On knowing that Yeshua's death and resurrection were
preplanned and were not accidental. 16:21 & 20:17-19
- On having faith for the power and authority that God has
given us. 17:18-21
- On aspiring to the innocence and humility of little
children. 18:1-4
- On blessing and not doing harm to the faith of children. 18:4-6 & 18:10-14
- On not allowing our bodies (or parts thereof) to lead us
into sin. 18:7-9
- On first going to our brother alone if he sins against us,
then with witnesses, and then, if necessary, seeking
adjudication by the ekklesia 18:15-17
- On forgiving our brother each time he sins against us;
there is no limit to the number of times. 18:21-22
- On obeying Torah, dying to self, and becoming a
follower of Yeshua if we want to assure our salvation. 19:16-30
- On seeking to serve - not be served. 20:26-28 & 20:23:11
- On having faith for the things for which we pray. 21:18-22
- On giving to our secular authorities that which belongs to
them, and to God that which belongs to God. 22:15-21
- On loving God with all of our heart, soul, and strength,
and loving our neighbor as our self. 22:33-40
- On not calling anyone on earth our supreme teacher, father,
or leader. We are to acknowledge God the Father as our
supreme father, and Messiah Yeshua as our supreme leader. 23:8-10
- On being humble and not self-promoting. 23:11-12
- On complying with the physical things required of us by the
Torah while not neglecting Torahs weightier
matters such as mercy justice
- On giving greater attention to being clean of spirit than
being clean of grime and of appearance. 23:25-28
- On not hesitating to say of Yeshua: "Blessed is He who
comes in the name of the Lord." 23:39
- On escaping the disasters and turmoil that are prophesied
to occur in the end-times. 24:1-22
- On not being beguiled by end-time false Messiahs and false
prophets. 24:23-26
- On expecting and looking for the Messiah's return
following the great tribulation.' 24:29-33
- On being alert, expectant, and ready for Messiah's
return, and being among those taken up to be with the
Lord. 24:37-44 & 25:1-13
- On being good stewards of the little or the much that we
are given. 25:14-30
- On devoting ourselves to loving, protecting, and providing
for our fellow man. 25:31-46
- On commemorating Yeshua's broken body with
unleavened bread, and his blood shed for us for forgiveness
of our sins with wine. 26:26-29
- On knowing that Yeshua has risen from the dead. 28:1-6
- On making disciples of Yeshua from the peoples of all
nations, immersing them in the name of the Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that
Yeshua commanded. 28:16-20
