We aren't an island

We were not born to be an island is another way of saying, "It is not good for man to be alone". Genesis 2:18 In other words, we were created to be in relationship or in

community. In fact if we look closely at the Word, God was not alone; Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness ..." Genesis 1:26.

So much about our personality shows that God created us to be givers and receivers or to be with others. Some of our most basic needs or character traits are involvement, relationship, communication, togetherness. We were not meant to be loaners but to give, encourage, support and invest in one another, giving our time, showing our appreciation by communicating and building relationship.

How is today's congregation fulfilling its role in this area? There are believers who come with hurts and wounds that causes a wall between themselves and others. All too often when there is a difference in understanding the Word, rather than reproving one another we rebuke the other person. Once again, walls go up and division comes in.

We should be encouraging and supporting one another physically, spiritually and emotionally through warmth, love and companionship. Otherwise we must ask ourselves what type of community are we building?

Our personal relationship begins with Yeshua and our instruction on where to go from there is plainly put in 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. The need for nearness or closeness should be naturally filled in the congregation. There is nothing sadder than to see people in the congregation who do not feel that they belong. When we are secure in our relationship with Yeshua and we are where He has called us to be, this should not be the case.

We were created with the need to be appreciated and in relationship. We are made up of five layers: physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual. No one ever climbed Mt. Everest alone, it was a group with a purpose, made up of individuals operating in their appointed task, gifts or strengths. So the congregation should ask itself, what is our purpose, our Mt. Everest, our vision?

Throughout the Word we see Yeshua walking among the people. He dwelled with and broke bread with His disciples. They were in relationship and involved together as Yeshua

taught, ministered and healed the people.

He is the one who dwells within us and makes us strong in our areas of weakness, with Him all things are possible.
