The Whole Armour of God - Part Two

First of all we need to put on the belt of truth. The word truth in Hebrew is אמת (emet). The first letter of the word is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the second letter is in the middle of the alphabet and the last letter is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This means that the word truth in Hebrew reflects the beginning through the entire word of God until the end. Therefore, when we put on the belt of truth, we are identifying with the truth of the whole word of God. Hence, we are clothed in righteousness which is loyalty, honesty, integrity and more.

And our feet, shod with the gospel of peace. Why does Paul place this on the feet. The feet are the connecting point of man to the earth. We know that Adam relinquished man’s God given authority over the earth. The believer is called to walk on this earth and to bring peace, healing and the promises of God to the land.

Through verse 16 we understand that there are attacks against the followers of God. Paul commanded that we pick up the shield of faith. The root of the word emunah (faith in Hebrew) comes from the word amen which means yes and right or true. The opposite of faith is doubt, only by picking up the shield and walking in faith are we safe from the arrows of doubt which come against us daily.

Next, take the helmet of salvation mentioned in verse 17. It was with the helmet that the roman soldier's head was protected. In Isaiah 59:17 we read about the same helmet of salvation which is on His head. This helmet of salvation protects our mind so that we can dwell in the salvation of God. We are confident in the knowledge of our salvation which gives us the courage to stand in the battle.

We are also commanded to take the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. God created the world by speaking and Yeshua is the living word of God. Therefore we are commanded to pray, to intercede and to proclaim God’s promises on this earth.
